Professional Developer

Jennifer A. McPeake, one of the module’s creators, is available to come to your school to train teachers and administrators in the effective use of CORI.

She will work with educators for one day before the teachers implement instruction. She is available for groups with a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 15 participants, which must include administrators and teachers. The school must purchase one Teacher Training Module for each participant who teaches 20-30 students. Additionally, a school must purchase all books and science materials listed at the back of the module before contracting Ms. McPeake. Other materials, including students’ charts, can be printed as directed in the module. Remuneration for Ms. McPeake’s services consists of travel and accommodation expenses, plus $500.00 per day.

Jennifer A. McPeake is a Professional Developer and Instructional Specialist for Concept-Oriented Reading Instruction at the Maryland Literacy Research Center at the University of Maryland at College Park. She co-created the CORI Teacher Training Module Grades 3-5 and provided professional development support for its pilot implementation in Queen Anne’s County, Maryland. Jennifer also created lesson plans and instructional materials for CORI Teacher’s Guides Grades 3, 4, and 5, and the CORI Facilitator’s Guide.

Outside of the University of Maryland, Jennifer is an early childhood literacy Professional Developer with the Children’s Literacy Initiative, delivering workshops and presentations in balanced literacy concepts and coaching early childhood teachers in the classroom. Recently, she collaborated with a curriculum development team to create Pathways to Understanding, a curriculum guide with an integrated approach for using quality literature to meet content area standards. The Pathways curriculum is currently in practice in Baltimore City schools where Jennifer provides coaching to teachers in planning and delivering effective lessons.

Jennifer has 14 years of experience as a teacher in Virginia and Maryland Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence and served regularly as a mentor teacher for the University of Maryland teacher intern program. In addition to teaching, she assisted the Office of Staff Development in Prince George’s County Schools by designing and presenting the professional development workshops Interpreting Curriculum Scope and Sequence, Writing Lesson Plans and Long Range Goals, and Techniques for Improving Reading Comprehension in the Content Areas. One of Jennifer’s most unforgettable teaching moments was a visit to her classroom by Secretary of State Madeleine Albright.

The CORI professional developer may only be hired in conjunction with the purchase of the CORI Teacher Training Module Grades 3 - 5.
